To story starts as the young master, bachelor whatever-his-name-was, reaches his 16th birthday. At this time the talisman protecting him from evil spirits seeking retribution, vowed on past blood, on the heads of his family (which at the moment would consist him and himself) appear. Defenseless and week, depending on his cute and kind childhood friend, he’s in no position to fight evil spirits; and so a cat spirit from the mountains taken care of his departed grandparents comes forth vowing loyalty and service till the time his demon slayer powers awaken.

The main girl is a spirit kitty bestowed with great lust for demon blood (as well as other more earthly things ~ ) Swinging her ever present blade around she, as far as the male lead is concern, is there to protect the last demon (aka spirit) slayer from harm and ill intent. Actually I just lied, there should be other demon slayers around, but they’re sealed blah blah, yada yada.

Her actions as the chapters progress are ever suspicious and here intent is veiled by her witty actions and speak.

I’d choose the less painful option myself.

Sticking with him behind the non-demon lines is his childhood friend *coughgirlfriendcough*, where he’s holiness resides since the death of his last relatives. Bestowed with ever shrinking patience and kindness towards Yuuto, her troublesome freeloader, Ranko-chan is the mover and pusher in the show.

Her secret weapon, Ranmaru, is only effective against Yuu.
Ranmaru is her cat.

Regretfully from Chapter 7 onwards the white cat, black cat and mouse game stops and the series becomes serious and more emotional as more kittens join the frey and hunt Yuu. Be they hellbent demons or fellow demon slayers the scent of the peace loving idiot’s blood is spread far and wide. As if things couldn’t be worse the talisman who was suppose to protect him by hiding his presence from demons had had such a profound effect that his memory had been completely lost, resulting in ever present awkward situations as the soup of confusion boils.

In the end, who will catch the little mouse I wonder.
