Baccano!

Here we go back to the American depression, some time in the 70′. The series focuses, or at least seems to focus, on one of the few famous elements we associate with the depression, namely: the mafia. There is blood and of course, lots of gore. (heads blowing up, fingers getting chopped, faces smashed, arms reduced to bones)

While the plot seems to focus heavily on the mafia, or at least people with agendas and attitudes close to that of the mafia, there is a certain feeling of more to it, the actual mafia related events are hardly plot movers. The first episode is told/recited by a certain detective and his assistant as they piece together, analyze and debate the circumstances and situation related to a particular mysterious incident.

For the first part of the show we simply listen to the conversation between Mr. Vice-Director (picture above) and his young assistant, Carol (girl; 14-16 maybe). As they talk, we get flashes of what is the actual plot perhaps. In the second half we see part of that plot in chronological order and understand what is going on, somewhat.

The series is scheduled for 13 episodes.
It’s name, Baccano! is italian for noise. Supposedly the series is meant to be somewhat random in nature by design, with lots of plot threads thrown at us from all directions. Might prove to be a good show, might prove to be a unreasonably complex show, like others I’ve seen. Time will tell. Personally I’m expecting very late answers from this one.
